Valentina 1.0.3 Released

Valentina 1.0.3 is a maintenance release that makes your everyday work calmer and more reliable. It does not add new features — instead, it removes a whole list of moments where the program could close unexpectedly, plus several small frustrations that slowed you down or showed you the wrong thing. If you have ever lost your place because Valentina or Tape shut down at the wrong moment, or felt that a panel “wasn’t keeping up” with your clicks, this update is for you. Everything you already do stays exactly the same — it simply works the way you expect, without the interruptions.

What’s New in 1.0.3

Pattern-making is detailed, focused work. The last thing you want is for the program to close while you are in the middle of it, or to second-guess whether a button actually did what you asked. Version 1.0.3 is built entirely around that feeling of trust. We went through the problems reported by the community since 1.0.2 and fixed each one — the crashes you might hit during a normal day, the buttons that didn’t refresh, the slider that lagged, and the picture that showed the wrong measurement. None of your patterns or measurements change; they will open and work just as before. Updating is recommended for everyone.

Valentina — Pattern-Making Application

  • No more accidental overwrites when exporting font corrections. When you export font corrections and a file with the same name already exists, Valentina now asks you first. You decide whether to replace it — so you can no longer lose a file by mistake.
  • Notch buttons update right away. In the Seam Allowance and Piece Path windows, the notch option buttons (passmark, reverse, exclude, and the others) now refresh the notch list and the on-screen preview the moment you use them. Before, you had to close the window and open it again to see the change. Now what you see always matches what you clicked.
  • Notches near a corner keep your chosen angle. If you set a notch angle by hand, that angle is now respected even when the notch sits close to a corner of the seam allowance. No more surprises where a carefully placed notch tilted on its own.
  • The second notch on a seam line behaves correctly. When a seam line has more than one notch, the second one now uses the angle you set instead of quietly ignoring it.
  • No crash when closing the History window. If the pattern changed while the History window was open, closing that window could shut down the program. That is fixed — you can review and close your history safely.
  • No crash when using undo or redo with a settings window open. Pressing undo or redo while a tool’s options window is open used to be risky. Now you can step back and forth through your changes freely, even with a dialog on screen.
  • No crash while closing the program. Valentina could occasionally close with an error during shutdown. The program now exits cleanly every time.
  • No crash when a multi-size measurement file can’t be loaded. If a multi-size measurement file couldn’t be opened — for example, when you cancel the dialog asking for missing measurements — Valentina stayed stable instead of crashing.

Tape — Measurements Editor

  • No crash while the known-measurements list updates. Tape keeps a library of known measurements that refreshes quietly in the background. Two separate situations where that update could cause a crash — including when a refresh and an update happened at the same time — are now resolved. Your measurement library stays open and dependable.
  • A smooth, responsive image size control. The slider that changes the image size in the known-measurements editor no longer stutters. It now reacts instantly as you drag it, instead of rebuilding the whole list of images with every tiny change.
  • The image list shows all its columns immediately. Previously the list of images could appear with only one column until you opened the Images tab or nudged the size value. Now it lays out correctly from the start.
  • The correct picture for the selected measurement. When you open the editor, the diagram shown for the measurement you selected is now the right one, every time.

Other

  • No crash from an incomplete formula. If a formula was left unfinished or mistyped, evaluating it could close the program. Valentina now handles such a formula gracefully and simply tells you something is wrong.

Upgrade Notes

Valentina 1.0.3 is fully compatible with pattern files created in 1.0.0, 1.0.1, and 1.0.2. Nothing needs to be converted — just open your files and keep working. There is no risk in updating, and every reason to: you get all of the above fixes and lose none of your existing work.
